Beer, Buildings I like, Life

Finding the Dark Star

I mentioned in my earlier blog that we passed the Dark Star brewery on the way down to Steyning and thought that would be a good place to visit. Well on the way back that’s what we did – nearly driving past until a voice in the back said oh the Dark Star brewery! So a swift U turn found us on an anonymous Industrial estate searching for the delight that is Dark Star. Unit 22 was our goal and sure enough the Dark Star shop beckoned the 3 of us inside and oh what delights we found – Hophead in bottles, Festival, Partridge & Revelation on draft, so 2 pints of Partridge (Supplied in a plastic carton like that used for milk) and 2 bottles of Hophead were swiftly purchased, all for the princely sum of £8.20!

As we turned to leave one of the staff said to us where have you come from ? Croydon we said and he replied as you have travelled a way to see us would you like a tour round the brewery? Well we did not need to be asked twice and spent around an hour being shown how Dark Star beers are made. Very interesting, I never realised how much went into making beer and the set up was not want I expected – no copper stills, stainless steel is used instead. here are the pictures

So after our trip round we bade our farewells and headed back to Croydon. A trip to Partridge Green and Dark Star is recommended and needless to say the 2 pints of Partridge are no more having been consumed that very evening!
