Reblog – Return to Little Bytham with Tony Wright

Last weekend, I had an enjoyable time with my friend Simon Roberts, filming Tony’s Little Bytham layout. We had done a similar video last year, but this time we decided to pull out all the stops and try and make it a bit professional….well a little perhaps. I hope you enjoy it.

3mm Coach for Wimhurst Road

Leafing through one of my Kent & East Sussex railway books the other day I happened across a picture of one of the North London railway 4 wheel coaches which have been preserved on the line. Further research on the net provided some colour photos. Spur of the moment purchases are a funny thing and it just so happens that I purchased one of Allen Doherty’s scratch aid kits of the very same coach  at Kingsbury about 2/3 years ago- so have commenced building the very same hopefully for Wimhurst Road next year. Here are the pics of model and the prototype

  Wish me luck.

Crossing gates for Wimhurst Road

For awhile I have been pondering how to do the crossing gates for Wimhurst Road. Unlike the larger scales in 3mm you have to build such items yourself. Whilst at the Wells show I picked up nickel silver strip, brass L angle and bar with gates in mind with the help of Mike Davy who helped pick the sizes at Eileen’s stand. I had also picked up at the Bridport show a Hornby level crossing cheaply for sizing. This morning I plucked up the courage to have a go, so out with the soldering iron and double sided tape and this is the result

One pair of crossing gates, enjoyable if a bit fiddly at times.

Have to add more detail to them, whether to use a triangle or roundel and add supports. I am using Poppy Woodtechs boarding for the Crossing so need to figure out the installation and how to operate them, might be das finger poking as on the dairy gates at Hemlock rather than electrics, watch this space.

More St.Petrock

You may recall awhile back the good Mr.P and I went to the East Sussex O gauge show down at Pett. I was lucky enough to have an operate of St. Petrock . Well we were both invited down to East Peckham to have a further play with the layout by Angus so a small and select gathering played trains to our hearts content.

The layout really is a joy to behold and smooth running combined with faultless locos made for a good day. Finished off with a Cream tea supplied by the good Mrs Angus the afternoon ended all too quickly before we had to head home for sunny Croydon.

Re blog -50 x 50 Shades of Grey – first outing

Today was the first proper show for Shades of Grey at the 3mm society ‘Westfest’ held at Ilton. I was pleased with the reception it had and the way it ran. I have instigated a form of the “Inglenook shunting challenge ” to make operating more interesting. Each wagon has a card showing a picture […]
