Railway, Railway days

Isle of Wight steam railway

Yesterday saw an excursion to the Isle of Wight steam railway for the first time. Luckily on arrival at Smallbrook Jct our train was waiting with Terrier in charge and off we went alighting at Haven Street. Calbourne and Freshwater were on shed and the Ivatt tank in steam to take up the next service train to Smallbrook Jct.

I was not aware that the Train Story museum had been established via Lottery funding so had a tour round there.

Back to the station to get our train to Wootton and on the way some more photos of around Haven Street.

Off for the short trip to Wootton behind the Ivatt tank. Wootton is the end of the line and very much still under development but looking good nevertheless.

One of the posters in the carriage showed the Island lines as they were, sad to think the majority have disappeared.

A good day which went all too quickly – well worth a second visit one day.

PS just to show I haven’t forgotten the Island line, a tube train for good measure.
