3mm Society, Railway

Westfest 2019

Saturday saw a run down to Winterborne Earls, nr Salisbury to visit 3mm Westfest organised by local member Vic Freemantle.

Always a popular event and judging by the full car park pretty busy too.

The Society shop and Seconhand were their plying their trade along with 3smr and members with delights to offer, not forgetting Peter White with the Society finescale wheels.

Now not only were there goods to be had but also a number of layouts on display.

Mike Corps Heybridge Wharf

Peter Bossom – Watlington (Sussex)

Nick Salzman – Lananta has been entered into the Cameo layout competition due to be judge in May so good luck Nick!

South Downs & Solent Modular

Jerry Clifford of Bath Green Park fame was also there with one of his 2mm modules

As usual the food was excellent and went down well. Thanks go to Vic Freemantle for organising the day.

Hastings diesel tour

This morning saw me up early, so decided to take myself to Bromley South to indulge in a bit of nostalgia. The Thumper group on Facebook had published the timings for the Hastings diesel tour from Hastings to Crewe and back which stopped at Bromley South to pick up punters.

So car ride to Beckenham junction and train to Bromley South saw me arrive in good time, in fact too early but I was able to capture freight hauled by 2 class 60s heading London bound. Checking realtime the special was making good progress having been 4 minutes down around Tonbridge but near enough right time 8.08am at Bromley South

platform 1 as though she had never been away. I was surprised that she is fitted with central locking hence the orange lights and also had a modern tail lamp on the back in addition to the red blinds. The brief stop ended all too quickly and off to Crewe she went, hope they have a great day.
